Whether you prefer an in-person meeting or choose our virtual tax preparation services, being prepared ensures a smooth and efficient process. Below is a detailed list of the items you’ll need to gather to file your taxes with Gigi’s Tax Co.

Personal Information

  • Driver’s license or government-issued photo ID

  • Social Security card or Tax ID number

  • Spouse’s full name and Social Security or Tax ID number (if applicable)

  • Spouse’s driver’s license or other photo ID

Dependent(s) Information

  • Dates of birth for dependents

  • Social Security or Tax ID numbers (required if this is your first year with us or if you’re claiming a new dependent)

  • Childcare provider records, including Tax ID number (if applicable)

  • Income information for other adults in your household

  • Form 8332 (if you’re a noncustodial parent claiming a child with the custodial parent’s release)

Employed

  • W-2 forms or pay stubs for verification

Unemployed

  • Unemployment income (1099-G) or state tax refund

Self-Employed

  • 1099-MISC, Schedules K-1, or other income records

  • Records of all business expenses (check registers, receipts, credit card statements)

  • Information on business assets for depreciation

  • Office-in-home details (if applicable)

  • Record of estimated tax payments (1040ES)

  • Auto loan/lease details if using a vehicle for business

Rental Income

  • Records of rental income and expenses

  • Rental asset information for depreciation

  • Record of estimated tax payments (1040ES)

Retirement Income

  • 1099-R forms for pension, IRA, or annuity income

  • Basis for Traditional IRA contributions (amounts previously taxed)

  • Social Security income (1099-SSA or RRB-1099)

Investments & Dividends

  • Interest or dividend income (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, etc.)

  • Income from stock or property sales (1099-B, 1099-S)

  • Cryptocurrency transaction records

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and long-term care reimbursements (1099-SA or 1099-LTC)

  • Record of estimated tax payments (1040ES)

Other Income & Losses

  • Lottery or gambling winnings/losses (W-2G)

  • Jury duty payments

  • Hobby income and expenses

  • Prizes, awards, or royalties (1099-MISC)

  • Trust income

  • Record of alimony paid/received (including ex-spouse’s name and SSN)

Home Ownership

  • Mortgage interest statements (1098)

  • Real estate and property tax receipts

  • Receipts for energy-saving home improvements

  • Repayment of First-Time Homebuyer Credit (Form 5405)

Charitable Donations

  • Cash donation receipts from charitable organizations

  • Records for non-cash donations (such as clothing or goods)

  • Mileage driven for charitable or medical purposes

Medical Expenses

  • Receipts for medical, dental, and healthcare payments

  • Health insurance forms (1095-A for Marketplace, 1095-B, or 1095-C for other coverage)

Childcare Expenses

  • Records of fees paid to licensed daycare centers or babysitters (do not include expenses paid through a flexible spending account)

Education Expenses

  • 1098-T form for tuition

  • Receipts for qualified educational expenses

  • 1098-E form for student loan interest paid

  • Records of scholarships or fellowships

Job Expenses & Tax Preparation Fees

  • Employment-related vehicle expenses (mileage, gas, maintenance)

  • Classroom expenses (for educators)

  • Receipts for dues, tools, or job-hunting expenses

  • Record of moving expenses (if not reimbursed by employer)

  • Amount paid for last year’s tax preparation

State & Local Taxes or Sales Tax

  • Records of state/local taxes paid outside of wage withholding

  • Sales tax receipts for large purchases (like vehicles)

  • 1099-G for state tax refund

Retirement & Savings Contributions

  • 5498-SA form for HSA contributions

  • 5498 forms for IRA or other retirement contributions

Federally Declared Disasters

  • Records for property loss, repair costs, or insurance reimbursements

  • FEMA disaster assistance information (check the FEMA website for your county’s status)

Last Year’s Federal and State Tax Returns

Having last year’s returns helps ensure accuracy when preparing this year’s taxes.
